FIBER + QUALITY
Color Theory is 100% acrylic, which makes it durable, easy to care for, affordable, and accessible to a wide audience. Lion Brand is known for their premium quality acrylic yarns, and this is the cream of the crop!
APPEARANCE
I find most acrylics to be too shiny for my taste, but Color Theory has an almost matte-like finish to it that makes it look so luxe. This, along with the color palette, allows you to create a sophisticated piece that looks super high end while still being budget friendly!
HAND
The hand of Color Theory (meaning the feel and quality) could not be softer, which was one of my top priorities. It is buttery smooth to the touch without being too slippery, making it an absolute dream to work with.
CONSTRUCTION
Color Theory is a 12-ply yarn spun not-to-loose and not-too-tight to allow for loft and versatility. Yarns like Lion Brand’s Woolspun and Color Made Easy were both 12-ply and had that really tubular shape to them that gave great stitch definition, but they were more tightly spun which made projects heavier and more dense. With Color Theory you get the squish and stitch definition of a 12-ply yarn, but the lighter spin takes away the bulk and lets each stitch fill up a bit more space for less heavy finished pieces.
WEIGHT
Color Theory is a worsted weight yarn, right in the middle of the yarn weight family. Hue + Me filled a gap in the market for bulky weight yarns, but its use is also limited to colder weather because of that. I have so many wonderful customers in warmer climates who were dying for a yarn like Hue + Me that would fit their lifestyle, so it was my goal to provide that with Color Theory. Worsted weight allows for quick-ish projects without the bulk, so it felt like the perfect choice.
DRAPE
The drape. Oh man, the drape. The buttery-soft nature of this yarn makes it flow so beautifully when worked up in both knitting and crochet. It has a slinky quality like Lion Brand’s Coboo, but has a bit more memory so your pieces won't stretch out of shape as much as they would with a cotton or bamboo yarn. Since Color Theory is lighter weight, there isn't as much drag to weigh it down.
COLOR PALETTE
How could I talk about Color Theory without talking about COLOR THEORY!? Following the concept of a fully mix-and-matchable palette like we built with Hue + Me, we carefully selected each of the 18 shades of Color Theory to not only work with one another, but to speak to different seasons, moods, trends, and the way different colors communicate with each other. Providing you with a gorgeous array of colors is so important to me because I want you to feel empowered with your choices and proud of your finished pieces. As we roll out the launch of the yarn and patterns, I'll share more about the concepts, definitions, science, and art behind the idea of color theory.
