Dockside Sweater
Late summer boat trips on the lake were the inspiration for this marled cotton sweater - just as the days slowly give way to an earlier evening breeze and you need a lightweight sweater on hand just in case. Picture yourself with the wind in your face while yachting in the mediterranean and you’ll never want to take it off! Enjoy the free pattern below in collaboration with Lion Brand Yarn, or purchase an ad-free, printable version here.
This is an easy+ level knitting pattern and the techniques involved are knit, purl, k2tog, ssk, picking up sts, and working in the round on double pointed needles. It's a great pattern for a first sweater!

Note: 24/7 cotton is listed as a worsted weight yarn, but I find it to be lighter and more suitable to light worsted/dk weight, but any substitute yarn should be checked against the gauge. Garment is worked from the bottom up, and front and back are the same. Sleeves are picked up and knit from armholes and worked in the round down to the cuffs. Pattern is worked with two strands of yarn held together throughout. Be sure to follow the directions for the size you are making: S (M, L, XL).
PATTERN:
Front and Back
Using circular needles, CO 48 (52, 56, 60) sts with one strand each of color A and color B held together.
Rows 1-6: *K 1, P 1, rep from * to end of row.
Row 7 (RS): K.
Row 8: P.
Rep rows 7 and 8 until work measures 21”/53cm (22”/56cm, 23”/58cm, 24”/61cm).
Bind off loosely. Seam shoulders from outside edges in approx. 6”/15cm (6.25”/16cm, 6.5”/17cm, 7”/18cm), on either side, leaving neckline large enough to fit over head easily (it will be a boat neck shape). Fold at shoulder seams and place markers 9”/23cm (9.5”/24cm, 10”/25.5cm, 10.5”/ 27cm) down each side to mark underarms. Seam sides from bottom edge to markers, leaving the 9”/23cm (9.5”/24cm, 10”/25.5cm, 10.5”/27cm) on each side un-seamed for the armholes.

Using double pointed needles with one strand each of color A and color B held together, and starting at underarm where side seam ends, pick up and knit 38 (42, 46, 50) sts evenly around right armhole. Place marker for beginning of round.
