Pattern Suites: Spring Accessories

UPDATE: THIS PATTERN SUITE IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. SIGN UP FOR MY NEWSLETTER TO BE NOTIFIED WHEN PATTERN SUITES BECOME AVAILABLE AGAIN.

It's that time again! A new set of pattern suites just launched and they are giving me all the warm weather excitement. I remember thinking when I first started designing knitwear that I'd probably have some downtime in the summers since knitting and crochet are so much more associated with fall and winter. How wrong I was! Spring and summer projects have actually become some of my favorites over the years. Lightweight knit and crochet garments are not only totally useful even in warm weather, but there are plenty of other non-clothing items that also make great projects! That's why this month I've bundled up all my favorite:

SPRING ACCESSORIES!

As summer is quickly approaching in the northern hemisphere, donning a snuggly and cozy knit might not sound too enticing, so this month I'm sticking to accessories only. I've curated each suite to contain my favorite knit and crochet accessories that are go-tos from years past and tossed in a couple of brand new patterns as well. In each suite you'll find two bags and two accessories for the bod. These items are all great transition pieces and can easily be layered and worn throughout the year even as it gets colder again.

The suites of 4 knitting or 4 crochet patterns are available for only $8 - more than 50% off if you were to purchase them individually! These suites will be available until early-mid June when they are replaced with a new set. So grab yours now while you can! Scroll down for a little background on each one, including an explanation as to how they make the perfect "spring accessories" projects.

The newest pattern in the knitting suite this month is the On the Horizon Wrap from my Summer Safari collection with Lion Brand. This nearly weightless triangle wrap can be worn like a scarf with the point in front or like a shawl, draped over the shoulders with the point in back. Worked up in Lion Brand Truboo, this bamboo fiber fabric is so slinky and silky and soft that it just cascades over the skin so beautifully. It’s a perfect transition piece from day to night and easily goes from casual to evening elegant.

The Farmers’ Market Tote is my equivalent knitting pattern to the ever popular crochet French Market Bag. I actually designed this one long before the crochet version, way back in early 2014! This is a roomy and stretchy bag that’s sure to fit all of your market goodies or beach essentials. I even use it as a project bag to tote around my latest make.

Designed in 2015, the Arrowhead Tote is a sturdy bag with a solid back and lovely simple lace front. The easy four row repeat is such a nice and meditative stitch that creates this stunning design. This bag is my go to for transporting a laptop and notebook for a day spent at a cafe or on a bench in the park.

Last in the knitting pattern suite for this month is the Chelsea Cape. I designed this as a knit sister pattern to my classic crochet Movie Night Cocoon Cardi. This could almost be considered a garment, but I consider it more of an accessory as it’s just so easy to toss on for a simple light layer, just as you would a shawl or scarf. This is also a meditative knit that results in an expansive but lightweight fabric that’s airy and breezy so as not to overheat.

The Ranger Fringe Scarf is the most recent pattern featured in this month’s crochet suite. Unisex and versatile, this guy is the ultimate summer accessory. It’s incredibly fast to make (I literally started it 3 hours before this photo shoot!), can be worn as a scarf or a shawl/wrap, and is so striking with its geometric pattern. It is made with Lion Brand Coboo, which is a cooling cotton/bamboo blend that’s perfect for keeping you cool in warm weather.

One of my best selling patterns of all time is the Capri Circle Bag. Talk about the perfect spring/summer tote! This easy level bag uses Lion Brand Rewind, a super unique tape yarn with zero stretch that gives this bag its structure and lightweight but sturdy functionality. This style of bag is so popular in today’s fashion that people will be shocked you made it yourself!

The Eastwick Wrap is an old favorite that I just love to make again and again. It’s so simple and meditative and the finished piece can be worn in so many ways! I have a cotton version that I wear as a scarf, shawl, wrap, and I even tie it around my waist as a swimsuit coverup. This makes such a nice gift as well since it’s so quick to finish but feels so dramatic.

The oldest pattern in the crochet suite, but still one of my top sellers, is the Day Tripper Bag. I designed this in 2014 for a trip to Mexico and ended up using it every single day. This was back when I was selling finished pieces, and alllll of my friends requested one of these after seeing mine in person! It’s roomy, sturdy, and durable to tote around your full day-at-the-beach necessities, and it can also double as a grocery bag, project bag, or overnight bag!
