Ombré Canyon Poncho

My new summer go-to garment! This poncho is perfect worn at the beach over a swimsuit or over a tank and cut-offs on the street. Worked up in Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton, the weight of the yarn helps it drape beautifully, and while the cotton and loose-crochet aspects of it keep it nice and breezy for warm weather, it’s also just great as an extra layer to cover your shoulders for nights out to dinner and a movie. The idea for this poncho came to me while I was visiting a dear friend in Los Angeles. The more beachy, bohemian side of me comes out when I'm on the west coast :) Having worked with 24/7 Cotton on my last project (the Movie Night Cocoon Cardigan), I knew that it would be perfect for this new pattern as well. There are so many beautiful colors to choose from, and lots of neutral and cool tone options, which are my fave!

I basically travel with a suitcase full of yarn wherever I go, so I had brought several shades of the yarn with me and had a tough time deciding which ones to use. That's when I settled on the faded effect of ombré and got to swatching.

This poncho works up super fast and is suitable for someone with basic crochet skills who is looking to learn a few new things. The techniques involved are double crochet, granny clusters, front post double crochet, and working in the round. Now let's get started!

ABBREVIATIONS:

*All Two of Wands patterns are written in standard US terms*

Beg - beginning
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Fpdc - front post double crochet
Rep - repeat
Sk - skip
Sl st - slip stitch
Sp - space
St(s) - stitch(es)

Note: All dcs and 3-dc clusters are worked between sts rather than into the tops of them unless otherwise instructed. To change colors, work the last yarn over of the previous stitch in the new color. 24/7 cotton is listed as a worsted weight yarn, but I find it to be lighter and more suitable to light worsted/dk weight.
