Hue + Me: Stargazer Throw
Whether you're outside under the night sky or inside atop the couch or your favorite reading chair, the Stargazer Throw is the dreamiest blanket to cozy up with. A simple crochet stitch creates this mesmerizing pattern that differs slightly on each side (both equally beautiful!) and is so addicting it will be hard to make this in more than one sitting. The original concept for the Stargazer Throw came about when I envisioned a late summer evening camped out under the stars and looking up for constellations. I wanted the pops of color to mimic stars in the sky. The consistent rows ended up also looking like strings of twinkle lights or even flowers in a field. I couldn't be happier with all of the ways to interpret it!
I love how this throw can look so different even with the same color combo depending on which color you choose for the main body. It can take on a totally different mood from one color to the next! With this easy stitch repeat it's also super simple to make the throw smaller or larger, and I think it would be super cute as a baby blanket as well.
I love crochet colorwork but I HATE all of the ends it produces. Solution? A blanket like this that incorporates all those ends into the fringe. Not a single end to weave in! Fringe on blankets creates so much drama and I love styling this kind of throw on chairs, couches, beds, you name it!
Since this throw is worked up with such a large hook, the process of making it could not be faster. The large hook also adds more space between the stitches for maximum drape. This also makes it an excellent choice for a gift since it looks so impressive with minimal effort. And because the stitches are so meditative, you'll want to start another one as soon as you finish it.
This is a beginner level crochet pattern and the techniques involved are double crochet, single crochet, chaining and skipping stitches, and working into chain spaces.
MATERIALS:
8 skeins Lion Brand Hue + Me in Juniper (617-178) for main color
1 skein each Lion Brand Hue + Me in Grapefruit (617-104), Ozone (617-105), Mustard (617-158), and Magic Hour (617-108) for contrast colors 1, 2, 3, and 4
(bulky, weight 5; 137yds/125m per skein)
Size US N/P/15 (10mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle
FINISHED DIMENSIONS:
(A) Width: 42”/107cm
(B) Length: 56”/142cm
GAUGE:
9 sts + 5 rows = 4”/10cm in double crochet
ABBREVIATIONS:
*All Two of Wands patterns are written in standard US terms
CC – contrast color
Ch – chain
Ch-sp – chain space
Dc – double crochet
MC – main color
Rep – repeat
Sc – single crochet
Sk – skip
St(s) – stitches(es)
Notes: Throw is worked flat in back and forth rows – turn at the end of each row. The chain 3 at the beginning of double crochet rows counts as a stitch; therefore, the final stitch in the following single crochet row will go in the top of the turning chain from the row below. To change color, work the last yarn over of the last stitch of the previous row in the new color. Tails are left at the ends of each row and are worked into the fringe at the end.
With MC, ch 129.
Row 1: Starting in 4th ch from hook, dc across row. (127 sts)
Change to CC1 and cut MC, leaving a 6”/15.5cm tail of each color to be worked into fringe.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, *ch 2, sk 2, sc 1, rep from * across row, with final sc going in top of turning ch from row below.
Change to MC and cut CC1, leaving a 6”/15.5cm tail of each color to be worked into fringe.
Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as a st here and throughout), *2 dc in ch-2 sp, dc in next st, rep from * across row.
Change to CC2 and cut MC, leaving a 6”/15.5cm tail of each color to be worked into fringe.
Rep rows 2 and 3, continuing to cut and change colors in the following sequence (first 3 rows already worked), until 8 sets of the sequence have been worked, then finish with a row 3 in MC.

Fringe:
Tie each pair of ends on either side of each row in a double knot to secure.
Cut 32 14”/35.5cm strands of each CC and 8 14”/35.5cm strands of MC.
Holding 2 strands together, attach fringe using larks head knots to the ends of each row in corresponding colors, incorporating the ends at the same time. To do so, fold the two strands in half and use the crochet hook to pull the folded loop through a space at the end of the row near the double knotted ends, then draw the ends of the strands and the corresponding ends left at the end of the rows through the loop to create the larks head knot. Trim fringe to desired length.
Repeat the above process at the corners with 2 strands of MC on each corner.
